Workplace wellbeing is quite the thing, these days. Everyone's doing it (everyone who's not been hiding under a rock and pretending it will go away, at least).


And - gosh - it deserves to be!


There's a huge mental health crisis going on (noticed that?) - and the world of business is beginning to wake up to the fact that unless they do something about it, nobody else is going to step in and save them from the sick notes. The healthcare system is hopelessly underfunded and overwhelmed. Post-Covid, people are demanding, more so than ever, that their employers treat them as humans and put their wellbeing first.


And when it doesn't happen, they're voting with their feet. The 'brain drain' is real - people who know they're worth more and have more to give are no longer satisfied to put up, shut up and wait for their pension to pay out. They want to feel valued, fulfilled and looked after, now.


But despite the corporate world throwing more resource than ever at mental health and wellbeing... their investment often isn't making anything like the impact it needs to (as we discussed here in our blog post, Beyond Burnout: Why Corporate Wellbeing Isn't Working).


Yes, resilience trainings, mindfulness events and EAP perks go some way towards helping the people who are in the right place to access them. But many simply... aren't. And even for those who are, their nervous systems are often so overloaded and so reactive to emotional and environmental triggers, that it barely scratches the surface for them. That yoga class might make them feel good for a few minutes... but they still carry their problems and anxieties in one door and back out of the other.


Because mental health isn't just an 'at work' thing. It's a whole human thing.


It makes so much sense when you think about it... we all have lives, experiences, relationships, whole existences outside of work that affect how we think and feel every day - and yet SO many solutions are solely workplace-based, as though work is the only contributing factor.


Newsflash: it's far from. The chances are, that seemingly slightly disconnected employee; that person who always seems defensive; or the one who never seems to eat - they're carrying way more in their personal lives than you'll ever know.
